Malleus Trio is a Vancouver based instrumental band (sax, upright bass, drums) that weaves together high-octane improvisation with original compositions, executed by a musical rapport forged over more than a decade. The band includes Ben Brown (drums), Dominic Conway (tenor sax) and Gordy Hart (bass).
Sought-after players in their own right, the members of Malleus Trio remain active in various bands from distinctly different genres: Hart is a founding member of indie-soul band The Boom Booms, Conway plays in afrobeat band Coco Jafro while Brown drums with the Juno ward winning jazz group Pugs and Crows.
This diverse experience pulses through the trio’s unconventional yet accessible music. Malleus Trio’s sophomore record, Play Nice, was released in the summer of 2019 at the prestigious Cultch Theatre (Vancouver) followed by performances at jazz festivals in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Halifax as well as a dozen performances across Canada. With a new album slated for 2020, Malleus Trio map new terrain for open-minded ears.
Check out the Malleus website for additional information, including video and recordings.
